On Wednesday, a massive explosion shook Ummayad Square in the heart of Damascus, Syria’s capital, following an Israeli airstrike that reportedly targeted the Syrian General Staff Headquarters.

Three Successive Israeli Strikes

According to local sources, Israeli warplanes carried out three consecutive airstrikes on the Syrian General Staff building. The bombardment caused extensive destruction to the site. Reuters cited two security sources who confirmed the presence of casualties, including both dead and wounded, following the attack on Syria's Ministry of Defense.

Presidential Palace Among the Targets

Israel’s Channel 12, quoting a security source, reported that the airstrikes targeted both the Presidential Palace and the General Staff Headquarters. Reuters also confirmed that an airstrike occurred near the Presidential Palace in Damascus.

Israeli Defense Minister: “Painful Strikes Have Begun”

Simultaneously, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant declared that the “painful attacks on Syria have started,” indicating a potential escalation in the conflict. This latest strike came just hours after the Israeli army confirmed hitting the General Staff building in Ummayad Square.
